I’m not a doctor, nor am I posing as one, but I do believe in the natural healing powers of food. After a run/Bikram class/any type of intense exercise I usually throw a little (1 tsp) maca powder into whatever it is I’m consuming post work out. You can Google “Maca Root” for a better and more credible explanation of the plant, but here are some of the reasons that I use maca powder:
Studies have shown that one of the main Maca root powder benefits is that it can work to balance hormones by directly working with the body’s endocrine system. The powder also has been shown to reduce cholesterol and improve good cholesterol in humans. Maca is a plant that is known for being very high in glucosinolates, and its regular consumption can exacerbate goiters (which is its main negative side-effect) if enough salt and iodine are not also present in the body.
Coconut Green Smoothie
- 2 Frozen Bananas
- 1/2 “Cliff Bar” click here
- Generous Handful of Spinach
- 1 tsp Maca Powder
- 1/2 Cup Fresh Coconut Water (not Vita Coco…yuck)
Blend all of the ingredients. I recommend using a Vitamix because that will completely pulverize everything, but it isn’t necessary. A Vitamix wasn’t used for the preceding picture of the green smoothie.
